Going Green with SIU Credit Union

Earth day is coming up on April 22, which means it is time to think about ways we can help conserve energy.  There are two services that SIU Credit Union offers that can help you conserve energy on Earth Day and in the future.

E-Statements

Less paper means more saved trees, so we give you the option to receive E-statements instead of paper copies.  They include all the same information as the paper copy, with the benefit of helping the Earth.  Plus, you will receive your statements faster and safer than before.  This reduces the risk of your statement ending up in the wrong hands.  If you would like more information on E-statements, visit http://www.siucu.org/online-services/e-statements.shtml

Mobile Deposit

How often do you drive to SIU Credit Union to deposit a check?  Conserving fuel usage helps limit emissions that negatively impact the environment.  Mobile deposit is a great way to deposit your checks from the convenience of your home or office.  No more trips out of your way also means no more unnecessary emissions while you are out.  The mobile deposit app allows you to scan your check with a smart phone and send to us for processing.  Better yet, you can use it anytime of any day!  For more information about mobile deposit please visit https://www.siucu.org/online-services/mobile-app.shtml

Additional Tips

Of course there are many other ways we can help out on Earth Day.  Here are some additional tips to help conserve.

1.    Utilize Reusable Shopping Bags

Reusable shopping bags are a great way to limit the amount of plastic that ends up wasted in the environment.  If you are using paper bags, you can still reduce the amount of paper used and help save trees!

2.    Limit Water Usage

There are countless ways to limit the amount of water that you use, but some are very simple.  When you go to wash your hands, just turn the water off while you later and you’re already helping.  You can do the same in the shower to save larger amounts of water also.

3.    Switch to Compact Light Bulbs

Energy-efficient light bulbs are a quick and easy way to reduce the electricity usage in your home.  The next time you have a standard bulb burn out, replace it with a compact fluorescent bulb instead.

4.    Hang Dry Clothes

It’s easy to love warm clothes coming out a dryer, but you can conserve energy by hang drying clothes as well.  As an added benefit, the clothes will better save their color and fit while you save a little money yourself.

5.    Pay Bills Online

Online payments don’t have to stop with SIU Credit Union!  Why not take a look at some of the other bills you receive and see if they have an online payment option as well?  You might even be able to go completely digital, increasing your conservation and efficiency!
