Save Money With Military Discounts

More than 200 stores and services around the country try to make the lives of active, reserve, and retired service members and their families easier by offering discounts.

Many restaurants offer savings, but they usually depend on location and individual restaurant participation. At Applebee’s or Texas Roadhouse, you can save 10% on your meal purchase.

Clothing stores like Ann Taylor, Aeropostale, Footlocker, Nike, and Banana Republic offer 10% to 20% off full-priced items. Other stores offer markdowns on specific days of the month. At Kohl’s, you can receive 15% savings on any purchase. Lowe’s and Home Depot both provide 10% off your purchase.

If you travel with Amtrak, you can receive 10% off train tickets for you and your family. Some companies, such as Budget Rental Cars or Alamo, offer up to 25% off car rentals. Airlines like American Airlines offer discounted airfares and reduced minimum stay requirements. Various hotels also provide discounts depending on rates based on variable daily limits (allowable per diem), location, and availability.

Many websites compile lists of discounted services. Sign up at Military.com to receive deals like department store discounts and rebates on new cars. ArmyTimes.com also shares military discounts.

Not all store locations offer the same discount, and many discounts vary from state to state and day to day. Make sure that you bring your valid military ID with you when you visit, and call ahead to make sure that location is offering a military discount.
